Marie-Juliette Bird, BA, MFA is a lifelong creator and life path bushwacker. A near-native of Boulder, Bird graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy and was president of her class at Juilliard. While earning an MFA from London International School of Performing Arts, she pioneered a music school, won an Independent Music Award and saw her designs featured on the cover of Vogue, Elle and Vogue Italia. Bird founded THE NEW LOCAL in 2019 with a vision towards supporting creative women to earn a living wage. She passionately believes that we are stronger together and envisions a world in which women support one another to succeed, in community.
Beth Van De Water is a Colorado native with a passion to seek the hidden beauty and the extraordinary change makers in the world. Through her work she wishes to drive movements, tell stories and shift perspectives. She believes that art is perhaps one of our greatest unifiers and teachers. Art heals. Beth's work has been represented in galleries in Washington DC, Denver, Vail, Boulder and Los Angeles. She graduated with honors and distinction from Occidental College in public policy, completing a two year comprehensive project in the power of education to launch grassroots movements. Beth moved from Los Angeles back home to Vail, developing SKE-COLOGY, an award winning environmental education program in partnership between the US Forest Service and Vail Associates. With the birth of her daughter, Beth became internationally certified as a Montessori teacher; she founded and ran two internally accredited Montessori schools, one in Arizona for the children of migrant workers. She has also served on the board of Boulder Metalsmithing Association and currently resides in Boulder, spending most of her time in her studio.
Erika Randall, BA, MFA, Associate Professor, Department Chair Theater and Dance, University of Colorado. Erika is a dancer who creates dances, films, theatre, stories and shadow boxes. Her work for high schools and colleges across the country have been feminist acts of reclamation, ruminations on the benefits of leaving flawed systems; institutions, dance companies, and relationships. Interlochen and Juilliard trained, Randall danced with Buglisi Foreman and Mark Morris and has been a frequent guest artists at Interlochen Arts Academy. She co-wrote, directed, produced and choreographed award winning feaeture film, "Leading Ladies." Erika's interest in dance, its relationship to popular culture, and its ability to queer worlds and impact change is at the heart of all her research and teaching. She is most herself when building community, dancing in class, and making her own way.
Daria Saraf, BA, Columbia University. Daria is a top rated broker with Sotheby's in California. She is passionate about design, architecture, landscape and the natural world. Daria brings a wealth of knowledge to THE NEW LOCAL, guiding the nonprofit to secure commercial brick and mortars in prime real estate markets. Daria specializes in creative problem solving and was ranked 2% of all agents nationally from 2017-2020. Daris lives in San Francisco with her son, daughter and her Rottweiler puppy, Lola.
