By donating to this program, you are giving mothers a space to create, be in community with others and continue to have a voice of their own.
Studio spaces are located in The New Local Gallery on West Pearl St. where each artist in the program will be a part of a larger artist community.
Our first recipient of this program is Boulder Artist, Dani Loujo. Please read below for a letter from Dani and what this program initiative would truly mean to her as a new mother and artist.
I’ve been invited to be the first beneficiary of a brand new initiative that provides subsidized art studio spaces for new mothers. I’m deeply honored by this opportunity.
At nearly three months postpartum, I’m finding myself in a new body, navigating a transformed heart-mind, and aching more than ever to make meaningful art. Needless to say that requires something different of me now that I have a little babe living life alongside me, one who needs my constant attention and care.
My heart is seeking a community-centered art space that can meet me as both an artist and a mother—one that will hold me in community while providing me with the room to make art, without the pressure of a monthly studio fee.
TNL will have a most wonderful private space available in the coming months, and I’ve begun to seek a donor or multiple donors who might make a tax-deductible donation to subsidize a year-long studio lease.
This support will be unbelievably meaningful to me and my family. It will provide me with the financial stability to explore the art that really wants to be made in this phase, thereby helping me grow as an artist, while prioritizing time with my little one. ~Dani
