OUR PROGRAMS

TNL Community Arts Outreach

In 2023, we launched TNL Community Arts Initiative, bringing our mission of accessible arts education into the larger Boulder community through classes, workshops and art programs, all taught by our roster of talented creators. Since opening our doors on West Pearl in November of '22, we have championed the creative work of 90 local, female-identifying/nonbinary artists in our downtown gallery. To date we have offered a total of 60 workshops, 3 field trips to local schools and 3 large, free, community art events. Our education programs have reached 200 children in after school programs and summer camps and 210 adults, including 25 full scholarships to local children and teens. During our community events, we have provided free arts education to 300 people. As we continue to expand and develop our community involvement, we are partnering with organizations to reach a wider group of underserved populations.

Free to Be, LGBTQIA+ Project

Starting in 2024, The New Local will host a series of art classes for the LGBTQIA+ community in our workshop space on West Pearl St, culminating in a public exhibition at our downtown Annex, during Pride Month, 2024. Workshops will be taught by TNL LGBTQIA+ artists and community allies, and open to anyone who identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our aim is to provide a safe space for folks to create together, build community and express themselves through creativity, while sharing their unique experiences and perspectives with the broader community. We will offer workshops to an inclusive demographic, including children, teens and adults. Fostering connections and positive experiences through creativity, we also give families the opportunity to create alongside other families who are also part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

El Centro Amistad, Arte Sana Collaboration

Partnering with El Centro Amistad and their program 'Arte Sana' The New Local is thrilled to be offering monthly art classes to the women in their program as well as art classes for their children, simultaneously, thereby alleviating the burden of childcare. Each class focuses on a creative topic of their choice, in various art mediums. Classes are taught by our gallery artists, giving TNL artists and the women and children of Amistad a chance to connect, share ideas and learn from one another. We were given funds through a one-time donation from a family foundation which will provide monthly classes for Amistad mothers and their children through December of 2023. We are hoping to continue this program in 2024 through donations!
