A workshop on painting with mineral pigments and the aesthetics of simplicity and uncertainty.
In this three-hour workshop, I will teach you painting techniques I developed based on far east philosophies and methods.
Using mineral pigments, together we will create our imagined landscapes on paper.
We will talk about how to find our own stories through art making and how creating ambiguity through the use of empty space frees us from the limitations of a well-defined object.
About the Instructor:
I am a Turkish-American multimedia artist. I create video, installation, sculpture, photography, theater, painting and print drawing on a range of present-day issues and cultural and historical references.
I create to peruse myself and evoke a form of consciousness. With each story I tell, I aim to start a communication through which I meet with my viewer, and other viewers meet within the space art creates, dissolving the separation between us, and across time, distance and culture.
I create imaginary worlds that help conjure unrealized possibilities. In my art, I use a soft voice, almost an understatement with silences, and pauses which create spaces of ambiguity where the viewer can escape from the limitations and complexities of a well-defined subject. By presenting a mere hint of the story, I evaluate the possibility of art to provoke seeking for emotions.
