What You'll Experience:
Alev from AMIO CERAMICS will guide you through the entire process of creating a unique wall-hanging ceramic planter. You'll have the wonderful opportunity to customize your unique planter with carving and/or relief techniques, allowing you to create beautiful patterns, textures, and dimensional elements that reflect your personal style. Choose from a variety of glaze colors to make your creation truly your own - no experience necessary, just bring your creativity and enthusiasm!
The Instructor:
Alev is a French ceramic artist who started her journey in Cork Ireland where she lived for 14 years and where she first discovered her passion for ceramics. She now creates from her studio in Boulder, Colorado. Her work is simple, elegant and inspired by nature with a neutral color palette. Alev believes that everyone has an artist within them and creates a warm, encouraging environment where all skill levels can flourish and feel confident exploring clay.
What's Included:
- Expert instruction and gentle guidance throughout the workshop
- All materials needed for creating your planter, including clay and carving tools
- Professional firing and glazing of your creation
- A complimentary small bag of soil and one succulent or cactus plant upon pickup
- A supportive, welcoming atmosphere where questions are always encouraged
The Process:
During the workshop, you'll work with rolled slabs of clay to create your planter, learning traditional handbuilding techniques that have been used by potters for centuries. Once your planter is shaped, you'll have time to decorate it with carving and relief techniques, adding your personal artistic touch. After the workshop, Alev will carefully transport your pieces to her studio where they will undergo a slow drying process followed by professional firing. This includes a bisque firing and a glaze firing to ensure your planter is both beautiful and fully functional. Your finished masterpiece will be ready for pickup at The New Local within about 3 weeks, complete with everything you need to start your planting journey.
