Encapsulated Driftwood Necklace & Small-Scale Sculptural Basketry Workshop

Instructor: Maya Rose Weiss
In this workshop, you’ll begin by selecting a piece of driftwood, and learning how to encapsulate it using a weaving technique. After adding it to a cord you will learn how to make adjustable knots to create a necklace.
The second part of the workshop will introduce you to the craft of twining, a technique used for thousands of years across various cultures. We will start with the basics and then touch on concepts like bifurcation, color changes, and the process of adding or subtracting warp pieces. It should be noted that this class is more explorative/experimental by nature. Whether you have worked with fibers before or not, all are welcome.

- 1 netted driftwood necklace
- 1 experimental piece to learn small-scale sculptural twining techniques
About the Instructor:
Maya Rose Weiss received her BFA from Pratt Institute and has exhibited at the Smithsonian Craft Show, the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, and the Museum of Art and Design.
