Katie Estler Horney

Katie Estler grew up in the mountains of West Virginia, the child of a woodworker and a teacher, with a younger sister and a fluffy brown dog named Dolly.  Katie now lives in the foothills of Boulder and is a painter, collage artist and sewing instructor with a younger husband, outgoing daughter and sleek black puppy named Lexi.  In between she had a career as a Costume Designer and accumulated many amusing cocktail party stories, discovered the state by working summers at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival,  and adventured with her family (in all its forms).
Katie has always loved art as play and has tried to express that in her work.  Despite working in different mediums she starts most pieces from the same point... a scribble of pencil, a scrap of fabric or a found image - and lets the piece grow organically from there.
